Brian Horrel tribute

Brian Horrel tribute on behalf of Shellie and the family

The following statement is issued on behalf of Captain Brian Horrell’s wife, Shellie, and the family. The statement was written with the support of some of Brian’s closest colleagues.

Tribute to Brian

Husband, Dad, airline pilot, flight instructor or jet skier, Brian’s methods were the same… dedicated, meticulous and professional.

Shellie, Olivia and Logan know Brian as a wonderful husband and father. Family meant everything to Brian.

The loss of Brian in the aircraft accident in France is a tragic event for the family who will be gathering around their Howick home as the recovery operation in Perpignan continues and information comes to hand.

Brian was extremely well liked and regarded by his airline pilot colleagues at Air New Zealand. He was a dedicated professional, always preparing meticulously in his methodical manner. The acceptance and delivery flights of the A320 from Europe home to New Zealand were no exception.

Brian’s family, friends and colleagues describe him as a “great guy”, always positive with a twinkle in his eye and an infectious laugh revealing a great sense of humour. Waterskiing, jet skiing and motorcycles were passions for Brian.

Shellie and the family would like to thank all involved, especially Air New Zealand and family friends for their wonderful help and support, and express appreciation for the flood of kind words and wishes. Their heartfelt love and best wishes go to the other grieving families involved in this tragic event.

Brian is much loved and will be greatly missed.
