Nia Glassie – Child Abuse
The tragic and callous murder of little Nia Glassie has touched the heart of our nation which is deeply moved with grief and mourning.. How could this tragic abuse of a beautiful and defenceless three year old happen? We protest that it must never ever happen again but it will.
New Zealand shamefully has one of the highest rates of child abuse in the world. These statistics are but the tip of the iceberg, for violence against children begins in the womb. Abortion entails violence against a defenceless and innocent child a member of the human family. How can we protest at the violence perpetrated on Nia Glassie yet accept violence against unborn children?
If we loose respect for the child in the womb should we be surprised if we loose respect for the born child? Abortion violates our instinctive desire to nurture and protect a defenceless child and predisposes us to violence against the born child.
As a nation we cannot expect our horrendous child abuse statistics to decline until we provide effective legal protection for the human rights of unborn children and stop the violence against our unborn.
It is a scandal that the tragedy of the abuse and violence against children in the womb is actually sanctioned and funded as a core health service by the government. As a result the whole community is compelled to be complicit in the abuse of children in the womb. It is a further scandal that the government is exerting pressure on all District Health Boards to provide abortion facilities and be complicit in violence against our unborn. These are the same hospitals that with dedication provide expert medical care for born children who have been physically abused. Let us put an end to all child abuse and treat every child from conception as a unique and unrepeatable miracle of God’s loving creation
