Mayor welcomes Police investigation outcome
Mayor Kerry Prendergast has welcomed the outcome of two separate Police investigations into her 2007 election campaign
spending
“In both investigations, I have been found to have completely complied with the law so I feel 100% vindicated. It is a
huge weight off my shoulders because although I was confident no breach of the Local Government Act would be found, the
publicity around the allegations has been very upsetting – both for me personally and for my family.
“I would like to thank the Police for the work they have done, which I understand took 50-70 hours of a senior
investigator’s time.
“I hope the two people who brought forward the complaints take heed of that – it’s such a huge waste of Police resources
– and consider how much better those resources could have been spent doing more important Police work.
“These sorts of groundless, nasty allegations are one of the worst aspects of being Mayor. It is such a shame that
failed candidates feel the need to pursue media attention and waste everyone’s time pursuing baseless allegations
instead of focusing on the positive future of our city.”
