Blatant hoarding theft a concern
Manukau East candidate for the Family Party, Poutoa PAPALII, has reported a blatant hoarding theft to police.
Last night three well-spoken men knocked on the door of a householder in Otara, where the hoardings had been erected, saying they were there to take the hoardings down ahead of the election.
The householder queried the timing of taking down the hoardings, but when the men insisted, permitted them to be removed. A supporter of Mr Papalii noticed the hoardings missing and contacted him.
“Up till now my hoardings around Manukau have remained in tact and generally undisturbed. I’m disappointed that this kind of blatant theft would occur and trust this is a one-off occurrence,” says Mr Papalii.
He says hoardings belonging to other candidates in the area remained untouched and doesn’t know why his were singled out.
“I can understand some drunken louts stealing my hoardings as a random prank. But the premeditated and deliberate nature of this theft is what concerns me,” he added.
