Federated Farmers support dangerous old Socialist

Press Release
Federated Farmers support dangerous old Socialist
John Ormond ACT Candidate and spokesperson on Agriculture
Sunday 1 November 2008
For Immediate Release.

"I was amazed to hear the President of Federated Farmers praising a minister whose avowed policy is to destroy the country's economic lifeblood, namely farming", said John Ormond - ACT Spokesman for Agriculture.

"When I heard Don Nicolson, president of Federated Farmers, praising the Leader of the Progressive Party, Hon. Jim Anderton MP, during Monday’s leaders’ debate on TV One, I was simply flabbergasted," said John Ormond.

"Has Mr Nicolson been living under a rock for the past few years"?

"Does he not know that Jim Anderton supports the Labour party’s Emissions Trading Scheme?

How could he be ignorant of the NZ Institute of Economic Research which says wth regard to the ETS
that farmers will need to pay $1.2 billion per annum on current prices in 2012"?

The NZ Institute of Economic Research states in their 2008 study.”
“The Impact of the Proposed Emissions Trading Scheme” that:

· Dairy land values will fall by 40%
· Beef and sheep land values will fall by 23%."

"So while farmers are facing a severe loss of income and drop in the capital value of their land why on earth is Mr Nicolson cuddling up to the Progressive party knowing they support the ETS.

I think Federated farmers should stop sucking up to the socialists and pay attention to the voices of their members who are saying that the ETS scheme will destroy their industry.

I look forward to Mr. Nicolson telling the members of Federated Farmers that there is only one party who is supporting their members against the threat of economic devastation by the ETS.

That party is the ACT party and Mr Nicolson should have the courage to say so."
