Wang! And the crime is gone
Wang! And the crime is gone.
Excerpts from
Kenneth Wang's Campaign Launch Speech yesterday [Fri 19
October].
With a banner reading "No One is Tougher on Crime", ACT Botany Candidate Kenneth Wang reaffirmed his position as the detergent Botany needs, and criticized the inaction of his opponents on the issue:
"On 5th July this year, I, and probably some of
you, marched with 15,000 other people through the centre of
Botany, soaked by the winter hail and rain.
We were
expressing our anger and frustration at the increase in
violent crime.
"But on July 5th, where were the other candidates who are also asking for your vote? Were they sipping flat whites or drinking latt¨¦s and eating muffins?
"I was there on July 5th. I was also there on the steps of parliament three years ago, to accept a 5,000 signature petition pleading with the government to toughen up laws on crime, and to protect citizens. I initiated that petition.
"Ask yourself . . . what kind of
representation do you want for Botany? Do you want someone
sipping flat whites or do you want someone who is taking
your issues to the Beehive?"
He also cleared up the confusion spurred by National's complaint against his signs:
"To make the absolute best of both votes
in your hands, it is imperative that you give your candidate
vote to me, Wang not Wong.
"My main opponent will be in parliament whether you vote for her or not. A vote for her is completely wasted.
"I repeat, a candidate vote for Pansy Wong is an entirely wasted vote.
"National believe they can govern alone. They can't. The reality is they will need a reliable coalition partner.
"It is imperative to vote for an ACT candidate in Botany to help to secure a government of change, rather than a mere change of government."
