More Kiwis will leave under
Labour
Family Party leader Richard Lewis presented the party message to Inglewood locals at a political forum in Taranaki last night.
In response to a question from the floor on the importance of the coming election, Mr Lewis said his major concern was the number of people talking about leaving New Zealand should Labour get re-elected.
"I've been on the road this week and am hearing a re-occurring theme: people are ready to pack their bags and leave our shores should Labour get re-elected. Certainly, the conscience of parliament has been out of sync with the conscience of the community and people have had enough. They're already voting with the feet by heading to Australia in record numbers," he said.
Mr Lewis said the Family Party stood to bring a fresh voice to parliament to put the cause of families first.
"Our approach to addressing many of the issues facing our communities doesn't involve throwing money at the problems. It involves a profound change of attitude that understands the family unit holds the key to success. A smart government would do everything it can to foster stable and enduring families, which is the opposite of what Labour has been doing over the last nine years. In three weeks time we have the power to bring parliament back in line with the conscience of our people," he said.
He added that the party strategy to win seats in Mangere and East Coast Bays meant every party vote towards the Family Party would add up to more pro-family MP's in parliament.
