Mission Green Earth Challenge
Drive to plant 100 million trees worldwide and to eradicate extreme poverty around the world
The Art of Living (AOL) Foundation, in collaboration with the United Nations Millennium Campaign and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) will lead and guide this world-wide campaign, MISSION GREEN EARTH, STAND UP and TAKE ACTION Challenge, 2008. As a part of this campaign, The Art of Living Foundation will mobilise millions of people globally to plant 100 million trees in support of the 7th Millennium Development Goal, environmental sustainability. And 100 million people will STAND UP around the world in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) from October 17th to 19th 2008.
AOL volunteers in New Zealand have planted 1850 trees so far in Wellington and Auckland region. Another tree plantation event is being organised for the 20th September 2008 in Wellington, and it is expected that atleast 300 more trees would be planted this weekend.
The STAND UP campaign in New Zealand is being organised in the Civic Square, Wellington on the 17th October 2008. Parliamentary members and other dignitaries will be there to serve soup to atleast 500 people that afternoon and to listen to their ideas/comments/opinions on the International Day for the Eradication of Extreme Poverty. Over 100 countries around the world will be taking part in this campaign, and New Zealand will demonstrate to the world that "We think globally and act locally".
These are truly significant and important actions that send a clear message around the world about the importance of taking some concrete action in support of the MDGs. AOL’s massive action on this goal will inspire millions of people to do their own bit for the alleviation of global poverty.
