IHC supports disability report but wants action now

IHC is pleased with the Social Services Select Committee Inquiry into the Quality of Care and Service Provision for People with Disabilities, but says it is now time to stop talking and start acting.

"There is nothing in this report that is new to IHC," says IHC chief executive Ralph Jones.

"The findings of the Select Committee are simply the things that we've been raising with various government agencies and ministers for many years.

"The fact remains that the sector is in crisis and on the verge of financial collapse. Unless action is taken now to fully fund the sector, all the time and expense that the Select Committee went to will be wasted.

"The sector cannot wait years for action. People with intellectual disabilities cannot wait years for action. They need jobs, access to health and disability services and access to a decent education, now."
