Upcoming 'Drag-In' Protest on Courtenay Place

Published: Mon 18 Aug 2008 04:31 PM
PRESS RELEASE: Frock This Sh*t
In a response to the allegedly unwarranted ejection of 3 drag queens from The Temperance on Friday 1st of August, and in light of the blatant homophobia by members of its staff and management, some radical queers are planning a dress up party.
"We're disgusted by the way staff handled the situation, and the persecution suffered by anyone who dares challenge gender roles, so we're gonna put on our best frocks and wigs and tell Temperance they can't stop us being fabulous" says radical queer, Rachael Wright.
The event has already been covered by queer media nationwide (gaynz.com and Express both have articles), but the protest's coordinators insist that further action is necessary. "This may appear to be an isolated incident, but discrimination faced by drag queens, as well as anyone else who strays from the straight and narrow, is a huge and often-overlooked problem in our society. This drag-in aims to show Courtenay Place that we're here, we're queer, and we're drinking your beer," says Wright.
The self-proclaimed 'drag-in' is happening this Saturday the 22nd of August, and the coordinators invite anyone interested to get involved by emailing them at radical.queers[at]gmail.com
