support for Labour
The overwhelming victory of Efu Koka in the Otara by-election shows Labour still has strong support in the Pacific community says Jerome Mika, chair of the party’s Pacific Sector Council.
Efu Koka won the by-election comfortably, gaining more than twice as many votes as the next most popular candidate.
Mika says Koka’s strong result is a good sign for Labour.
“The Pacific Sector Council has always been a strong part of the Labour Party and has encouraged people like Councillor Efu Koka who is one of many strong, young capable Pacific men and women to stand for public office.
“We are confident that as the election nears, Pacific people will look at what the Labour Government has achieved on their behalf and how National has voted against gains like four weeks annual leave, Kiwisaver, protections for vulnerable workers and improvements in the minimum wage.
“The Pacific Sector Council is encouraged by the Otara by-election result and we see this as a good sign of things to come.”
