Family Party in the convoy!

4 July 08. The Family Party has joined the truckie convoy downtown Auckland city in protest against Government’s sudden price increase on road user charges.

Deputy leader Paul Adams says his party strongly sympathises with road users whose livelihood relies on transportation and is concerned that the cost increases are going to be a breaking point for families and businesses.

"I’m really feeling for these guys whose livelihood is being severely compromised by increasing taxes that are coming at their families and businesses from all directions. For many I believe this is the final straw and demonstrates just how out of touch Government has become with the realities of everyday family and business life,” says Mr Adams.

At its May conference the Family Party called for the removal of GST off the excise duty on fuel to take pressure of families and individuals in tough economic times.

"The Family Party call to remove GST off the excise duty on fuel is a fair and timely measure under the present circumstances. It is also our view that taxes mounted upon taxes are inherently unfair but have become a hallmark of the present Labour-led Government," he added.
