New Zealand Energy Data File released

The Ministry of Economic development today released the latest edition of the New Zealand Energy Data File, which includes data up to the end of the 2007 calendar year.

Highlights of this edition include:

·         Total energy consumption has continued to grow at a lower rate than GDP growth.

·         Petrol and diesel prices remain low relative to other OECD countries.

·         Wind generation capacity almost doubled during 2007.

·         Significant investment in new renewable electricity generation is planned.

·         There has been large growth in domestic oil and gas production as a result of the Tui and Pohokura fields performing strongly.

·         Oil and gas exploration activity remains high by New Zealand standards.

Hardcopies of the New Zealand Energy Data File can be purchased for NZ$60 (excluding GST) plus postage.  Alternatively, the New Zealand Energy Data File is available online, free of charge, via the Ministry’s website: www.med.govt.nz/energy/edf/.
