George Ngatai to stand in Otara by-election

11 June 08. George Ngatai has confirmed his nomination to stand in the Otara by-election created by the resignation of William Sio.

His standing has been fully endorsed by Family Party leader and local Manukau East General Election candidate, Richard Lewis.

Mr Ngatai is the Director of BDO Marketing and Business Solutions and has held a number of key local Government roles, including:

§         Project Coordinator for Maori Wardens – Auckland (Current)

§         Committee member – Treaty of Waitangi Committee Manukau City Council (Current)

§         Advisor to Mayor and CEO – North Shore City Council

§         Chairman – Community Organisation Grant Scheme NZ Lotteries Committee Manukau (Current)

§         Former Regional Direction Te Wananga o Aotearoa

§         Former National Smoke Free Co-ordinator

§         Former Co-ordinator Crime Prevention Auckland City Council

§         Former Manager – Regional Radio Station

§         Former Manager – Social and Health Services

“I am honoured to stand for such an important role in representing the best interests of Otara families. I believe a lot more can be done to improve the social and economic position of Otara families and I am particularly passionate about reducing crime rates, drug dealing and graffiti in Otara. I want to give our children and families the best education and opportunities available in our country and will do my very best to achieve that for them,” says Mr Ngatai.
