New acting head for Workforce Group
The Department of Labour has appointed a new acting head of its Workforce group, which includes Immigration New Zealand.
Andrew Annakin, Deputy Secretary of the Department's Workplace Group will take up the post today on a nine month secondment.
Mr Annakin has had an extensive public service career, with significant experience in managing service delivery and organisational change, as well as policy development and implementation. He has been at the Department of Labour for eight years and was responsible for bringing together two previously separate service delivery organisations (the former Employment Relations Service and Occupational Safety and Health), as well as a number of associated policy teams and the ACC monitoring function, to form the Workplace Group. He is committed to building a strong and respected organisation with a focus on public value.
Mr Annakin will ensure that business as usual continues within Immigration New Zealand, while reviews associated with it are undertaken.
The Chief Executive of the Department of Labour, Christopher Blake, said he was confident that Mr Annakin's appointment would provide the means to move Immigration New Zealand forward positively.
"Andrew Annakin is an experienced senior public servant, respected by Ministers. He knows the Department of Labour's business well and he has successfully managed diverse and complex organisations, particularly in times of change. He will work closely with me and our strategic leadership team to steer Immigration New Zealand through the reviews process and forward."
