16 May 2008. The Family Party is expecting a large public turnout at its conference tomorrow (Saturday 17th May) at the Nga Tapuwae Community Centre in Mangere.
The conference will feature keynote speeches from leader Richard Lewis, deputy leader Paul Adams and Mangere Candidate Galumalemana Jerry Filipaina. The program will include live music by South Auckland’s Pacific Music Award finalists, Cydel, and a high tech advertisement that the party intends to launch on the Internet.
Investigate Magazine’s author Ian Wishart will be a guest speaker.
“We’ve been working harder than any other party in Mangere, having visited nearly every single household twice. Our goal is to be part of the furniture by Election Day! Saturday is about taking our South Auckland campaign to the next level and also launching our nationwide campaign by featuring a high quality advertisement that we’ll be launching online,” says Mr Lewis.
He says the party will also be announcing policies that have found a lot of favour amongst locals during their door to door campaign, including repealing the Prostitution Law Reform Act, fixing the ill-conceived smacking laws and axing GST off basic (primary staple) food groups to make healthy food affordable.
“The policies we will present have already been endorsed at ground level in this community so we expect they will find a lot of favour. What’s more is that they are pro-family policies that the current Labour-led Government have rejected, which will make for an interesting debate in the community,” says Mr Lewis.
