Appointment of Chief Executive of LINZ

The Deputy State Services Commissioner, Iain Rennie, today announced the appointment of Colin MacDonald to the position of Chief Executive of Land Information New Zealand (LINZ).
Mr MacDonald is currently the Deputy Commissioner, Business Development and Systems at Inland Revenue Department. He has held this position since November 2001.
"Mr MacDonald has acted in the position of Chief Executive of the Inland Revenue Department. His experience in the public sector in New Zealand and extensive experience in the private sectors in New Zealand and the United Kingdom in leadership, management and information technology will assist him to successfully lead Land Information New Zealand through the next stages of its development.
"LINZ is responsible for the policy, regulatory and core government service delivery functions relating to New Zealand’s authoritative land and seabed information. Its purpose is to provide the people and systems that ensure confidence in the land rights and geographic information underpinning New Zealand as a nation.
"Colin MacDonald has a range of skills and experience that are relevant to the position of Chief Executive, Land Information New Zealand. He has more than 25 years’ experience in leadership and IT in the public sector in New Zealand and the private sectors in New Zealand and the United Kingdom,” Iain Rennie said.
Prior to taking up his current role, Mr MacDonald was the Chief Operating Officer for the ANZ Banking Group (New Zealand) Limited. On migrating to New Zealand in 1994, Mr MacDonald joined KPMG holding the positions of Senior Consultant and Associate Director. Prior to this, he held a number of technology-related roles in the UK within the legal profession, the oil industry and the retail sector.
Mr MacDonald completed a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the University of Glasgow in 1980. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the British Computer Society.
Mr MacDonald takes up his appointment on 1 July 2008.
