Labour To Confirm Candidate For Tamaki Seat
The Labour Party in a meeting being held tomorrow will confirm its candidate for the Tamaki seat. Josephine Bartley a New Zealand born Pacific professional has been nominated by the Labour Party to represent the Tamaki electorate. Ms Bartley will fill the vacancy left by former Labour member Michael Gleissner.
Josephine Bartley a Samoan with a law degree and resident of Tamaki will be confirmed on Saturday 10 May at 3pm in Glen Innes.
Ms Bartley represents the new breed of young & gifted Labour candidates that are being groomed by the Pacific Sector Council of the Labour Party to move through the political ranks in the upcoming 2008 general elections.
Labour has solid support in Glen Innes and Point England which remain part of the Tamaki electorate despite the new boundary changes.
The Labour Party is the only political party with Pacific Members of Parliament, namely Hon. Luamanuvao Winnie Laban, Hon. Vui Mark Gosche, Charles Chauvel, and the latest Member of Parliament former Manukau City Deputy Mayor, Su'a William Sio who is standing in the Mangere electorate.
