Former MP And Kiwi Party Leader Says That New Zealand Should Have More Referenda
Kiwi Party leader, Larry Baldock, says that the Party will change the threshold for referenda to 5% of those who voted at the previous election instead of the current 10% on the electoral role.
He says New Zealand was out of touch internationally. In the state of California if a referendum is called for the repeal of legislation already passed by a deaf parliament - as we have done, then that's binding. Asked about policy he said his Party would establish a referendum day mid term between elections for people to express their views on significant issues.
His party would also make all private members bills submit to a binding referendum before becoming law. Currently, these bills are usually not announced in the election, so no one knows about them when they vote. Labour uses this strategy to introduce its secret social engineering agenda, instead of taking their agenda openly in their manifesto to the electorate.
It was well known, he said, that Labour whip their MPs into voting against their conscience in order to secure the votes needed to pass laws kiwis do not want and never voted for.
