The Long Walk against Climate Change –
Walk Starting Tomorrow
Activists from the Save Happy Valley Coalition - Auckland and other environmental organisations will be starting the long walk against Climate Change from Auckland’s Sky Tower to Happy Valley tomorrow at 10.00.
There will speakers from the Green Party and Greenpeace as well as Happy Valley Auckland who will be highlighting issues about Climate Change and the threat to the unique habitat of Happy Valley by State Owned Enterprise Solid Energy.
Place – Base of Auckland’s Sky Tower.
Time – assembling at 09.00 on 28th January 2007.
Background
Auckland Anniversary day, 28 Jan 2008 coincides with the 2 year anniversary day of the occupation of Happy Valley on the West Coast of the South Island. The Save Happy Valley coalition aim to stop the imminent destruction of a pristine native sub alpine wetland, home to thirteen endangered species, by state owned Solid Energy for an open cast coal mine.
On this date we will take the first step in our journey from the Auckland Sky tower, set to arrive in Happy Valley in late April.
