Background
Auckland Anniversary day, 28 Jan 2008 coincides with the 2 year anniversary day of the occupation of Happy Valley on the
West Coast of the South Island. The Save Happy Valley coalition aim stop the imminent destruction of a pristine native
sub alpine wetland, home to thirteen endangered species, by state owned Solid Energy for an open cast coal mine.
On this date we will take the first step in our journey from the Auckland Sky tower, set to arrive in Happy Valley in
late April.
There will be a fundraising event at Forde’s front bench Political Bar at 122 Anzac Ave on Saturday the 26th of January
from 7pm. There will be Live Music, DJ’s a screening of the DVD about Happy Valley and as always convivial discussion
and the usual great Craic.
