Bunnings Action At Naenae - Pre-Christmas Walkout
Bunnings Action at Naenae
Another pre-Christmas walkout by Bunnings staff took place in the Hutt City suburb of Naenae this morning.
Action at Naenae 23 December 2007. Some of the Bunnings workers
together with Maxine Gay, NDU Retail Secretary
Eight Bunnings workers joined an equal number of National Distribution Union supporters on a noisy picket at the two entrances to the Bunnings store.
Leaflets were given out and workers chanted slogans against the zero wage increase offered by the company.
Most vehicles responded to the "toot for support" signs and a few customers turned away saying they were off to another DIY store until Bunnings treated its workers with respect.
This actions follows similar walkouts at ten other Bunnings stores over the last week.
Workers are incensed at the zero wage offer made to them when the CEO of Wesfarmers, the West Australian company that owns Bunnings has just received a 62% wage increase to $6 million a year.
