Will Yellow Australia Apologise?

SOLO-Australia Press Release: Will Yellow Australia Apologise?

By Lance Davey

13 Dec 2007

So Kevin is set to apologise to the indigenous people of Australia for the obscene and barbaric treatment they and their ancestors have received at the hands of the state? Good! They deserve an apology, and nothing puts a smile on my face more than seeing the state humbled. But I note in the Sydney Morning Herald a poll which asks: "How should White Australia apologise?" Hang about! White Australia? What do white Australians have to do with it? Well the rationale goes something like this: white Australians were complicit because, uhhh, they were there, or their ancestors were, and did nothing to stop it.

Well, by that rationale, I would expect the apology to be on behalf of Chinese, Lebanese, Greeks, Maori and Italians as well. And since 'white' does not differentiate between recent white migrants and second, third, fourth, etc. generation white Australians, I would expect the apology to be on behalf of South Africans, Zimbabweans, Americans, and New Zealanders too. They or their ancestors may not have been there at the time, but they are/were white!

White? Honestly, what a primitive distinction! Stupid, collectivist claptrap! If you have a certain skin colour and live in Australia, then you bear responsibility for what happened generations ago and should apologise? Utter nonsense. The state perpetrated it; if an apology is in order, it's the state that should apologise.

If Kevin Rudd is going to apologise, don't fuck about, just say: "We, the state, were wrong, we fucked up. We apologise, we're sorry, it won't happen again." Unfortunately Kevin Rudd's proposed apology is really a yellow-bellied politically correct renunciation of western values in the guise of repudiating the good-faith bad actions of some Australian governments. Australians of all shades should rue the day.
