Holcim Decision a Breath of Unpolluted Air

Holcim Decision a Breath of Unpolluted Air * *By Lindsay Perigo
November 29, 2007 * The Green Party is very disappointed with an interim decision indicating support for cement giant Holcim's plans to build a massive cement plant at Weston, near Oamaru.
SOLO-NZ is delighted.
"The interim resource consent decision, issued by the three commissioners hearing the application, flies in the face of the overwhelming opposition to this plant," Green Party Conservation Spokesperson Metiria Turei says.
"Translation—overwhelming opposition to this plant, and any form of progress, by the Green Party," prods SOLO Principal Lindsay Perigo, helpfully.
"This plant will impact Weston School, Oamaru township and the environment in general, as well as contributing massively to climate change," says Turei.
"This plant will have absolutely no impact on climate change* *and a * positive* impact on community and school," says Perigo. "Who knows, with the added demand for teachers, they might bring in a good one who knows better than to use nouns like 'impact' as verbs?!"
"The decision to allow this project to proceed is absurd and negates the efforts of those New Zealanders who are doing all they can to try to combat climate change," says Turei.
"Excellent!" says Perigo. "Climate change has a mind of its own. Said New Zealander*s *are mind*less*."
"It also goes against the recent decision by the High Court in the case between Greenpeace and Mighty River, which ruled in favour of Greenpeace and found that regional councils must take climate change into account when considering applications for discharge of greenhouse gases," says Turei.
"Even better!" says Perigo. "Perhaps the commissioners, unlike the silly bat Turei, have tumbled to the fact that man-made Global Warming is a nonsense, on* *a par* *with *taniwha* and other superstitions the Greens are in thrall to. In any event, the commissioners are to be congratulated on an unusually rational decision: a breath of air unpolluted by the usual hysterical neo-Marxist toxins and politically correct carcinogens*."
