The leaking of information regarding the recent “terrorist arrests” may well have been the most appropriate action in
terms of public safety, and the only option for the Police given the incompetence of the current Police Minister, says
Republicans Police spokesman Bevan Berg.
“Where is she hiding?”
Veteran protestor John Minto may take a very narrow view on rights when he looks to defend those “who brought themselves
to the attention of the Police,” but he is also marching with protesters who have a right to be reasonably informed
before they engage in acts of righteous indignation or unlawful acts fuelled by a degree of perceived injustice.
If this leak reassures a reasonable public that they can have faith in their police commissioner, it also gives our
front line Police staff the confidence to do their job.
Some may view this as the Police electing trial by media.
“I take the view that this matter has been thrown clearly back into the political arena where it belongs, and the fact
that some politicians choose to hide from their responsibilities is no excuse for the media to focus on Police who are
in fact the narrow end of this wedge. Calling this issue terrorism continues to avoid dealing with the separatism our
country faces.
If our Police become the meat in the sandwich over this issue it will only be because politicians keep running from
their responsibilities and our media chooses the soft target.
