Minister Performs Emergency Surgery

Capital and Coast District Health Board has been transferred to the intensive care of the new Health Minister, David Cuniliffe says Republican’s Health spokesperson Karl Brett.

In response to Mr. Cunliffe’s suggestion that primary accountability lies with the DHB, Mr. Brett suggests that

“The way forward is not to shoot the messenger, Judith Aitkin, but to acknowledge that the DHB’s have become bureaucratic monsters that no specialist is prepared to serve.”Â

The question must be asked of the Labour Government, - Was Mr Hodgson sacked for not being able to sack, or is Mr. Cunliffe threatening to sack the board because there are no others to sack?

“The solution going forward is really quite simple”, says Mr. Brett.

Return the decision making and the administration back to the medical profession and pay market rates for specialists. There is a real need to reduce the bureaucratic drain on DHB’s who are currently throwing away tens of thousands of dollars every day, constantly defending their inability.

“It is pleasing to see Mr.Cunliffe acknowledge that fundamental changes are needed, however the fundamental change that will deliver the health system we all deserve, is when voters - Vote wise and Vote Republican” says Brett.
