Update On Condition Of Injured NZDF Troops

Update On Condition Of Nzdf Troops Injured In Afghanistan Accident

The two NZDF soldiers injured last week in a weapon accident in Afghanistan are to return to New Zealand to convalesce.

Following assessment of the full extent of their injuries by hospital staff, the medical advice has been for the soldiers to rehabilitate at home.

A NZDF liaison officer who visited the men on Tuesday reported them both in good heart, happy to see a familiar face, and very complimentary of the treatment they have received. The soldiers have been in contact with their families.

One soldier will return next week whilst the other soldier’s wife will join him in Germany until he is ready to return in approximately two weeks time.

Replacement personnel are currently preparing to move into the mission area.

An inquiry into the accident is underway. The names of the soldiers involved will not be released at this time.
