Solidarity Rally At Bastion Point With Jimmy O'Dea
SOLIDARITY RALLY AT BASTION POINT WITH JIMMY O DEA
from
3pm onwards, Friday October 26th
Friends and Solidarity Union comrades of Jimmy O Dea's will gather at his house in Bastion Point today Friday October 26th to demonstrate their solidarity with him and his family, after an extremely upsetting and stressful experience for a 72 year old prostate cancer survivor.
Jimmy's house was raided and searched by 8 carloads of police officers yesterday, who had a search warrant which was looking for a pistol, a baseball bat and a hunting knive as well as a pair of pants, in connection with a kidnapping. Jimmy, a long time socialist and trade union activist, sees the raid as an attack on his civil rights.
Jimmy has been there for other people throughout his life, now we stand with him from 3pm on, 107 Kupe Street, Orakei.
There, we will be making union placards for the Civil Rights Defence demonstration, which will march from Aotea Square to Mount Eden prison next day, Saturday Oct 27 from 12 noon. Jimmy will be taking the spirit of Bastion Point with him on Saturday's hikoi, and urges all other trade unionists in Auckland and beyond to come join us and stand up for civil rights.
Please spread the word.
