Outward Bound staff from 29 countries are set to converge on New Zealand to attend a five day international staff symposium at Anakiwa, in the Marlborough Sounds – home of the New Zealand Outward Bound school.
Outward Bound Chief Executive Officer, Trevor Taylor, said 88 international delegates from countries as diverse as Bermuda, Tanzania, Israel and Croatia as well as 45 local staff and 33 other New Zealanders will take part in the Symposium which runs from 23 to 27 October, 2007.  Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) is principal sponsor of the five day event.
SPARC Chief Executive, Nick Hill said Outward Bound is an organisation that strives to help people realise their full potential through outdoor experiences.
"This is a goal we share at SPARC, therefore, we’re happy to be supporting this Symposium.
The  Symposium, which has as its theme ‘Connecting Journeys’  will provide an opportunity for attendees to sit down face-to-face in an open forum to share ideas, and discuss solutions to common issues and challenges.
“Many of the conference topics are issues facing societies around the world,” Trevor said.
Keynote speakers include Outward Bound Ambassadors Mark Inglis and Norm Hewitt, as well as international speakers including Elizabeth Anglin who is Managing Director of the Outward Bound Centre for Peace Building in the USA.
Other international speakers are from Outward Bound Japan, Australia, Canada, North Carolina and Israel.
Trevor said the brief for all presenters is to provide opportunities for delegates to share insights, knowledge and experiences from across the globe.
“We’re expecting some thought provoking presentations and discussions to occur during the Symposium all of which will help pave the way for enhancing how Outward Bound operates internationally.”
