Public Support Nets Much Needed Cash
Public Support Nets Much Needed Cash
October 10.- HOSPICE will be $30,000 better off thanks to overwhelming public support for a novel competition.
Long-time hospice supporter Dilmah Tea offered to top up its annual onpack donation by another $5000, to $30,000 if the public shared its favourite way to enjoy Dilmah by World Hospice Day, October 6.
Hospice New Zealand received hundreds of entries and, as a result, Dilmah will deliver on its promise.
Wellington woman Heather McKenzie won the main prize of a year's supply of Dilmah, plus a luxurious night for two at any Heritage Hotel in New Zealand.
Her favourite way of enjoying Dilmah was through home-smoked salmon using Dilmah loose leaf tea.
Entrants had a free reign as to how they enjoyed their Dilmah, whether it be in the usual way in a cup, or in a recipe, as a cocktail or even as a remedy for puffy eyes.
Among the more novel ways were using used teabags under hydrangeas so the flowers bloomed strong and bright, to clean mirrors, to stop bleeding gums after having a tooth out or to create a soothing footbath with Dilmah's mint or lemon and lime tea.
New Zealand is one of 50 countries that celebrate World Hospice Day each year, a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care worldwide.
All the country's hospices are members of Hospice New Zealand, providing free palliative care to people living with a terminal illness while also supporting family/whanau and friends.
