Court Grants Leave To Prosecute Taito Field
New Zealand Police National News Release
5 October 2007
"Police today welcomed the release of the High Court decision to grant them leave to prosecute Taito Phillip Field, the Member of Parliament for Mangere, on fifteen charges of bribery under s103(1) of the Crimes Act 1961.
Det. Supt Burgess said that today's decision was
another step completed in the unique process of laying
charges under this section. "We will now look at how we
implement the leave to prosecute. We hope to have the
bribery informations laid in the court within a relatively
short time frame and I expect the case to follow the usual
rules of procedure from
that point."
Mr Burgess said that Police will also be laying a number of charges against Mr Field in relation to allegations of attempting to obstruct justice. Those informations will be laid at the same time as the bribery charges."
Mr Burgess said police will not be making any comment about the detail of the charges.
