Champion NZ St John Ambulance Officers head to South Africa competition
Our national champion team of St John emergency care Ambulance Officers heads to South Africa on Saturday to compete at
the 100th anniversary of the South African Emergency Care Competitions.
This follows our team’s huge success in winning the New Zealand competitions in May, then winning for the second time
the Trans-Tasman cup at the Australian competitions in June.
Our national team consists of Ian Harrington, Ross Jarden, Julie Corkery and Jan Douglas, all either Advanced Paramedics
or Paramedics. The team will compete in various emergency care exercises including individual and team first aid
emergency scenarios and a one-hour theory exam.
Team member Ian Harrington says he is excited about the challenges ahead. “This is the first time a New Zealand team has
been invited to South Africa to take part in their national competition. It is a great opportunity to share knowledge
and experience with Ambulance Officers from other countries,” Mr Harrington says.
“We will be making the most of the opportunity and are proud to be representing New Zealand on the international stage,”
Mr Harrington says.
The team arrives back in New Zealand on 9 October, and will share their experiences and lessons learned with other St
John Ambulance Officers.
