World Vision announces partnership with Intrepid Travel
As travellers become increasingly aware of the effect their touring has on the countries and local communities they pass through, many are choosing adventure holidays that allow them to give something back.
In partnership with Intrepid Travel, World Vision is running its first adventure challenge trip to Cambodia in November 2008.
Intrepid's charity challenges allow travellers to take an incredible adventure holiday and raise money for their favourite charity at the same time.
The first World Vision trip will be a cycle challenge in which participants ride about 80km a day, passing through Cambodian villages and meeting local people, cycling along beautiful coastline and touring the temples of the Angkor region, near Siam Reap. In a unique adaptation of Intrepid's itinerary, the group will also visit a World Vision project in Takeo province.
Claire Farrelly, marketing co-ordinator for World Vision New Zealand, says intrepid travellers will get to see exactly where the money they fundraise is going.
"They'll be raising money for the World Vision area development project they visit. It's a community in the early stages of the development process, so the funding it receives is going to make an enormous difference in people's lives. For World Vision supporters this is a wonderful opportunity to see for themselves how our projects work and what a difference their money makes."
Intrepid's open charity challenges allow travellers to choose an alternative trip – such as walking the Great Wall of China or cycling in Vietnam – while still fundraising for their preferred charity.
"This particular trip will be a physical and mental challenge for everyone involved, and they will need to do some training to be fit enough to cycle in the Cambodian heat! But it will be well worth it," Miss Farrelly says.
