release. Human Rights Commission
The Human Rights Commission has been taken to task today by the Republic of NZ Party, after a media release from EEO Commissioner Dr Judy McGregor, urged
“Women to vote in the up-coming local body elections and to consider voting for quality female candidates.”
In response to the Republicans, Commissioner Roslyn Noonan would not endorse Dr McGregor’s position, but said,
“The Commission advocates that all New Zealand’s elected bodies should be generally reflective of our society and this includes a balance of the sexes. We hope men and women would consider how inclusive their local body will be when making decisions who to vote for.”
The commission has been asked whether they will be publicly clarifying their position, but at this stage hasn’t responded.
