Public registers – Law Commission Issues Paper

Media Statement

Public registers – Law Commission Issues Paper
13 September 2007

The Law Commission today released an issues paper about the law relating to public registers.

“It is plain that there are some intricate problems with the law relating to public registers,” says President Sir Geoffrey Palmer. “They need to be worked through in a systematic way. Clear and transparent decisions must be made. There are important privacy implications that need to be properly reflected in a uniform way across the statute book.”

The Law Commission raises a number of options in its issues paper, and is seeking comments and submissions on them. The closing date for submissions is Monday 5 November 2007. The issues paper is available from the Law Commission’s website www.lawcom.govt.nz
