SIS decision great news for Zaoui and his family – CTU
The withdrawal of the security risk certificate against Ahmed Zaoui today is great news for Mr Zaoui and his family, and is long overdue, Council of Trade Unions president Ross Wilson said.
"The CTU has always been concerned that Ahmed Zaoui was held in prison without charge for so long, and was subject to a flawed and unfair process since the Refugee Status Appeals Authority decision.”
Given that the SIS has said they reached their decision based on recent information from Mr Zaoui, Ross Wilson questioned why this outcome couldn’t have been reached much earlier on in the case.
“If the SIS had listened to Mr Zaoui in the first place this lengthy period of uncertainly could have been avoided. This development raises more questions that it has answers,” he said.
“I would also like to acknowledge the commitment of Deborah Manning and Ahmed Zaoui’s supporters in ensuring that he could get to this point.”
