Forced Abortions in New Zealand

Forced Abortions in New Zealand

We abhor and condemn any coerced abortion, whether the coercion is physical, economic, psychological, or in any other form.
Vice President Al Gore, "Meet the Press," 1994

Right to Life New Zealand is calling on Members of Parliament to draft legislation to make it illegal for an individual or organisations to force or coerce women into having an abortion.

Bills or legislation of this kind is not with precident Five anti-coercion bills were passed in Michigan on July 26, 2006. House Bill 5880 introduced by Michigan Representative Leslie Mortimer is trying to establish procedures to make sure that a woman is not intimidated into an abortion friom a father of the unborn child, her family, employer or other individual in a position of authority such as a teacher. One 2007 House Bill 4656 also attempted to prohibit coercing a woman to have an abortion. It was Introduced by Rep. David Agema on April 24, 200.

It is well known that worldwide Family planning advocates such as IPPF and it's affiliates have pressured women into having abortions. New Zealand women are likely to have been and still are subjected to physical and mental intimidation to have an abortion especially by family members, boy friends, teachers, counsellors, FPA nurses etc.

We therefore invite anyone who wants women to be free of such intimidation and coercion to sign the following petition as worded below as a preliminary indication of support. The website address is:

The petition wording:

We the undersigned support a law reform that will make it a criminal act to force pregnant women into abortions.

We need to safeguard a pregnant women's right to be free from undue coercion from individuals or groups who seek the abortion of her unborn baby.

The petitioners therefore request Members of Parliament to draft a legislative bill along these lines, and support its passage through its readings.
Note: this is not an official Parlimentary petition
