Grey Power National President, Mr Graham Stairmand stated today "After the launch by the Minister, the Gold Card has not been as well received by our members as was hoped. Some held very high (and probably unrealistic)
expectations so their disappointment has been voiced with vehemence and strong words. However, it is a start and will no doubt be built on. Depending on how the elderly use the card, other contributers will be attracted to join - so, in a way, it is up to us."

"It is however, extremely disappointing that the government has contributed nothing - they could have had their SOEs (Genesis, Meridian and Mighty River Power) provide discount for electricity to the elderly but, as their interest in the welfare of the elderly is minimal, this is not surprising. "
