Corrections to Develop Site Based Solutions to Cell Phone Usage in Prisons
Department of Corrections Chief Executive Barry Matthews has confirmed that all prison sites will be covered by cell phone blocking technologies announced this morning.
“I am confident that regardless of the site including those in urban areas such as Mt Eden, Corrections has a mix of solutions to prevent the use of cell phones by prisoners or any other person within the prison confines,” says Mr Matthews
“In the case of Mt Eden this includes jamming and hard wire detectors.
“In all instances the Department has carefully chosen technologies appropriate to the particular prison site to ensure there is no interference with cell phone users in the community.
“The solutions will include a range of technologies including cell phone jamming, cell phone detectors, metal detectors and x-ray machines.
“These measures support the legislative changes recently announced by the Government and the work Corrections has been doing with prisoner entry searching of people and vehicles.
