An Invitation - The Environmental Defence Society Seminar Series
National Policy Statement Forum
Following on from the Environmental Defence Society’s 2007 national conference, Beyond the RMA, we are holding a series of workshops designed to continue the discussion about improving the Resource Management Act. The conference was notable for broad agreement across a range of stakeholders on the need for greater national guidance on key resource management issues.
This first seminar of the series assembles an expert panel to discuss the use of National Policy Statements, where they might be helpful (or unhelpful), what they should contain (in order to be effective on the ground), and why we still don’t have any (apart from the coastal one). The format of the seminar will include a short scene-setting presentation followed by a moderated discussion which will broaden to include audience participation. It will be of considerable interest and relevance to resource management professionals, local government politicians and staff, developers, farmers and environmental activists.
