Oh,those Winter Ills…Aucklanders for
Aucklanders
Many of us are home sick dealing with the misery of winter colds and flu. It’s bad enough when you’re tucked up in a warm bed or wrapped up in front of a heater, sipping a hot lemon and honey drink, or sucking on throat lozenges. Maybe you’ve had to resort to antibiotics to shake that secondary infection, to deal to that bronchial cough that just won’t clear up…
Imagine how much worse it is when you don’t have the money to go to the doctor, or to buy the lozenges or lemons.
Imagine what it’s like when you’re sitting shivering at home because you can’t afford to run a heater and you don’t have enough warm clothes or warm bedding.
Imagine what it’s like when you don’t even have a bed – or a roof over your head…
“Being sick makes you feel miserable at the best of times,” says Auckland City Missioner, Diane Robertson. “Spare a thought for those Aucklanders who sitting in a cold, empty house or flat, too poor to take care of themselves. Or those who are homeless, exposed to the cold, the wind and the rain.”
“For the Mission to provide assistance now and in the coming months, we need your help,” she says. “Please donate to the Mission’s Winter Appeal.”
The Appeal runs until August 20. Money raised will go towards food, clothing and other services for the city’s most marginalised families and individuals.
To make a donation to the Auckland City Mission’s Winter Appeal phone 379 2395; donate online at www.aucklandcitymission.org.nz; or post it to Auckland City Mission, PO Box 5352, Wellesley Street, Auckland.
