Daily Lockout Update - Day 6
Highlights from the lockout sites:
Kaitaia
Spent the day at the WINZ offices organising emergency benefits and keeping out of the rain.
Whangarei
Visited the DHB Ceo Karen Roach to deliver our demands. Workers Charter members & MP Paul Chalmers will help out with collecting donations in the weekend.
North Shore (AKL)
Crashed the ‘Hospital Crisis’ meeting called by National MP Wayne Mapp and featured on the TV coverage of the meeting. Local Labour MP Anne Hartley joined the picket line in the morning.
Waitakere (AKL)
Members inspected the state of the hospital - many serious Health and Safety concerns have been raised with the DHB.
Middlemore (AKL)
Campbell Live crew bought along a $1000 donation from Sheetmetal Workers in Northland who saw the story about Mama on TV & wanted to help. A Lockout Busstop Cafe will open next week to gather donations and give out coffee, tea and goodies to Middlemore staff who are still working and members of the public.
Tauranga
Members are planning on making collections over the weekend in the city.
Rotorua
Members featured on the front page of the local paper! In solidarity with Auckland members they piled boots in front of their picket line. Also the local New World donated bags of food.
Gisborne
“We’re still strong and fighting hard!”
Wanganui
DHB Board members will be getting visits from locked out union members and their supporters over the weekend.
Hastings
Will visit CEO Chris Clark tomorrow to pass on our demands.
Palmerston Nth
Members visitd DHB CEO Ian Wilson’s home, his wife said he wasn’t home but the local paper quoted him saying “Im not happy, this is getting scary.”
Invercargill
Recieved $500 from the local Maritime Union. Local DHB CEO again refused to meet and abused the organiser and blamed all actions on the union.
