Olympics and Genocide cannot co-exist in China

NZ Barristers tell our Sister City, Beijing: Olympics and Genocide cannot co-exist in China

¨Beijing must respond to the request for an independent investigation into the practice of organ harvesting of living Falun Gong practitioners in China by 8 August 2007, or our coalition will commence a Global Human Rights Torch Relay campaign and invite all persons who care for justice and human rights to boycott the 2008 Beijing Olympics.¨ Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG)

Dr Catherine Casey, Auckland City Councilor, is also a CIPFG member. Other persons have joined CIPFG and we anticipate further support from other people in the coming months.

Background information:
Wellington City has a sister city relationship with Beijing City, China. Similarly, Auckland city’s sister city in China is Guangzhou city, in Guangdong province.
The recent report, “Bloody Harvest- Revised Report into allegations of Organ Harvesting of Falun gong Practitioners in China” by David Matas and David Kilgour (31 January 2007) (http://organharvestinvestigation.net) concludes that organ harvesting of living Falun Gong practitioners in China without their consent, killing them in the process, is widespread throughout China.
On March 20, 2007, Mr Manfred Nowak, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, issued a report that corroborates previous findings in 2006 about persecution, abuse and torture of Falun Gong practitioners and other Chinese citizens by the Chinese Communist Party. He states in his report that employees of the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region in Guangdong have indicated that they have used organs from live Falun Gong practitioners for organ transplants, without their consent and killing them in the process.
