New Zealand International Transport Workers Federation affiliates media release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 31 May 2007
New Zealand transport unions back Australian maritime unions
The New Zealand affiliates of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) have announced their support of Australian maritime workers involved in the Capo Noli dispute in Port Kembla, New South Wales.
The New Zealand ITF Affiliates convenor Wayne Butson says the New Zealand ITF condemns the use of foreign labour by CSL to displace traditional Australian dockers and breach the ITF Bargaining Forum agreement.
He says the group has pledged international solidarity with the Australian workers and condemned CSL actions in their failure to consult with Australian Unions and the blatant use of foreign workers.
The New Zealand ITF affiliates include the Rail and Maritime Transport Union, the Maritime Union of New Zealand, the National Distribution Union and the Merchant Service Guild.
