Funding Initiative Welcomed By Women's Refuge

Funding to help train and support staff working to prevent violence in Maori whanau and communities has been welcomed by the National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges.

Women’s Refuge says the $2 million, set aside in the budget, for the Mauriora Maori Framework, is a welcome commitment from the Maori Affairs Minister Parekura Horomia to reinvestment in kaupapa Maori.

Women’s Refuge, which has about 370 Maori women in its workforce, will look to further their skill development over the next few years by taking part in the Mauriora training.
