Media Release: Horn of Africa - Awareness Campaign

There will be a gathering for peace in the countries of the Horn of Africa with a special focus on Darfur and Somalia.

The event will be held in Civic Square on Saturday the 26th of May
from 12pm-2pm.

It will be a chance for people in Wellington to hear more about issues such as war, resource exploitation, and poverty that face this important yet ignored area of the world.

One of the organisers Yilma Tafere Tasew said ''The Horn of Africa has always been the centre of conflict and rivalry of powerful forces in history. All people of the planet who are interested in peace, human rights, and democracy should be aware of and stand in solidarity with the suffering of the people of the Horn of Africa.”

There will be a focus on the current conflict in Somalia, the US role through Ethiopia, and the involvement of each country in the Horn in escalating the situation.

There will be a special performances by Olmecha Supreme. Speakers will include Yilma Tafere Tasew, Ced Simpson (Amnesty International), Dr Ramon Das, Dr.Christopher LaMonica and Valerie Morse
