Destiny New Zealand enthusiastic about future

Destiny New Zealand leader Richard Lewis said today that his party was committed to the 2008 election despite talk of a new Christian political party headed by former United Future member, Gordon Copeland.

"As it presently stands, Destiny New Zealand is still the only legitimately registered Christian based political party in the country. We achieved a fair result in the 2005 election as the highest polling party outside of parliament and many of our candidates fairing well in their electorates. For example, I came in 3rd only behind Labour and National in the Manukau electorate, so there's confidence in the camp based on our track record to date," says Lewis.

Destiny New Zealand campaigned on a wide range of policies including economics, welfare, education and law & order, with all of the policies based on a platform of traditional family values. With a nationwide organisation, the party knocked on doors of over a million voting households and also stood candidates in all seven Maori electorates.

"In our first election, at a time when all minor parties struggled, we achieved nearly 14,500 votes, which is a solid platform to move forward. The latest TNZ/TV3 Poll placed us ahead of Progressives and behind United Future by only .3%, which means we're still very much in the consciousness of the public," Lewis added.
