Earlier today a protest organised by the Dunedin branch of Young Labour met on the Union Lawn of the University of Otago and marched to the George Street Subway to demonstrate in support of sacked Subway employee Jackie Lang.

The protest was joined and strongly supported by the International Socialists and the Autonomous Workers Union. The reception from Otago University students and Dunedin locals was excellent, with several passers-by joining the protest.

More than fifty people of all ages joined the march and picketed outside Subway, distributing leaflets and repeating Young Labour’s call for a boycott of all Subway restaurants.

“Its really great to see so much community support, New Zealanders need to stand up over issues like this” said Young Labour member, Ella Hardy.
