Families Day 2007

Date 8th May 2007

Heads Up!

Families Day 2007

WHAT – Families Day

Families Day is a celebration and recognition of families based on the United Nations initiative, International Day of Families. It reflects the increasing awareness of the importance of family and family issues around the world.

Every year there is a key theme or message centred on families. This year the theme is ‘work-life balance’.

“Families have told us that one of the biggest issues facing them today is time – it can be a struggle to satisfactorily balance the rewards and responsibilities of work, family, friends, culture and community” says Rajen Prasad, Chief Commissioner

There are no easy solutions to getting work-life balance, and in collaboration with unions and employers throughout the country, the Families Commission is hoping Families Day will provide an opportunity for business to demonstrate their commitment to the health and well being of their staff, while endeavouring to empower employees to take advantage of work-life balance initiatives if they are available.

WHEN – Tuesday 15th May 2007
Families Day is recognised on the 15th May each year throughout the world, celebrating and recognising the role of families in our society and actively promoting issues of concern to families.

The Families Commission is hoping families will make the most of the day and find time to spend together, while working with businesses encouraging them to be part of Families Day.

WHERE – local & national
Recognising that work-life balance means different things to different people, Families Day will involve a compliment of businesses throughout New Zealand who will be providing examples of the different work-life balance initiatives that they currently provide for staff.

More information on local initiatives in your region and a list of business contacts will be sent through on Friday.
