Caritas Seeks Support For Lent Appeal 2007
The Caritas Lent Appeal starts on 21 February, Ash Wednesday and runs through to Palm Sunday on 1 April 2007.
The Lent Appeal is the annual appeal for Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand, the Catholic agency for justice, peace and development.
The Lent Appeal is a practical way of offering almsgiving and practising justice towards our neighbours throughout the Lenten period.
Lent Appeal envelopes have been sent to all Catholic parishes throughout New Zealand. The bright purple envelopes are divided into six sections, highlighting 5 projects Caritas supports through the generosity of its supporters. Supporters unable to obtain Lent Appeal envelopes from a local parish, can contact Caritas directly on 0800 22 10 22.
The Director of Caritas, Michael Smith says “Through the support of Caritas this Lent, donors can make a real difference, to the suffering of others around the world. Donations will help Caritas to support community development programmes, to provide vital disaster relief, and to work for social change world-wide. Every bit counts – with most of Caritas’ international development projects receiving a government subsidy of $4 for every Caritas dollar spent. This means a donation goes a lot further.”
Michael Smith says “Caritas is aiming to raise in excess of $800,000 in this year’s Lent Appeal. Last year we raised $785,000 and we would love to break through the $800,000 barrier.”
